Hello Bandweavers!
My Weaving Posse gave me this sweet little heddle, which was hand carved by Kerstin Neumüller from Sweden. I love its character and the way the maker’s hand shows in the little details. It’s charming, and it’s perfect for weaving the narrow pick-up patterns we’ve been looking at in my last two posts.
The Blue Band
For the band above, I chose one of the patterns from my previous post, 24 Pick-Up Bandweaving Charts for 5 Pattern Ends. The warp draft is essentially the same as the one for the red band in another previous post, Narrow Pick-Up Bandweaving Patterns—Three Approaches, except that each pattern end consists of two strands of 5/2 perle cotton instead of one strand of 3/2.

To learn all about Kerstin, the classes she teaches, her unique band heddles, and the books she’s written, visit her website. Or watch a delightfully engaging presentation she gave for Vesterheim Museum here.
Kerstin’s book, Simple Weave—Weave Without a Large Loom, introduces a variety of simple techniques—including warp-faced, weft-faced, and balanced weaves—that can be done with small, portable, and easily accessible tools. It should especially appeal to new weavers, who will appreciate the friendly, non-intimidating approach that makes getting started feel so doable, and to weavers who are interested in making their own tools. But experienced weavers can also find pleasure, inspiration, and new new takes on the familiar—in Kerstin’s hand-drawn illustrations, lovely photographs, and her unique perspective that shines throughout the text.
